Having earned four points after drawing with Guinea and defeating Guinea Bissau in their previous two matches, the Sierra Starlets fell to the tournament’s leaders Senegal losing by three goals without a reply, last night at the Southern Arena in Bo City.
The defeat placed the Starlets in third position after Guinea, in second position, who secured four goals and four points: one more goal than the Shooting Starlets with three goals and four points. Senegal has been crowned Champions with nine points, Guinea and Sierra Leone with Four points each in second and third place respectively; Guinea Bissau with Zero points lies fourth on the table.
The technical team for shooting starlets stated that they were impressed by the performances of the girls in the tournament. “We just started playing the female Elite Premier League in the country. Drawing one, winning one, and losing one is a good result. We just need to continue playing in the league and I believe that we will have more productive results in the future” the head of the technical team stated.
Minister of Sports Ibrahim Nylenkeh assured shooting starlets of the government’s support and emphasized that he was impressed with their performances in the tournament.
Haja Ramatulai Kamara, Female Rep for Sierra Leone Football Association, thanked the players for their service towards the nation declaring that the players represented the nation well and that she was proud of them.
Babadi Kamara, the owner of Southern Arena when addressing the players after the game encouraged them not to be discouraged by the results. “You girls did well, we were impressed by your performances. In football sometimes you will win, sometimes you will lose but we will continue to support you ladies” Babadi affirmed.
Sierra Leone won two Women of the Match awards in the just concluded WAFU tournament, Captain Kadiatu Kamara against Guinea, and Juliet Brima against Guinea Bissau.

Sierra Leone also won the fair-play award in the competition.
