The Flying Eagles of Nigeria rose from their 2-0 last group defeat against Brazil to beat hosts Argentina 2-0 in the round of 16 and reach the quarterfinal of the U20 FIFA World Cup going on in Argentina.
A first-half goalless draw with both sides being careful was played before Bosso’s boys took the lead in the 61 minutes of the second-half through Muhammad’s goal.
Efforts made by the Argentines to level up proved abortive but they were handed another shocker in injury time when Nigeria scored a second goal from Sarki.
The win is Nigeria’s first ever victory against Argentina at this level, it is also the first time Nigeria will beat a South American side at the U20 level.
The Flying Eagles will now face the winner between Ecuador and South Korea in the quarterfinal of the tournament.
