Old Students of the 1997 set of Akintan Grammar School in Surulere, Lagos, have taken full advantage of the Sports Essay and Broadcast Competition to reunite with their former school.
The Sports Essay and Broadcast competition which drew the attention of the alumnites is being organized by Mr. Joseph Odoekwu. A former Games Prefect of the school and founder of Sports Intelligence Magazine.
Mr. Stephen Etomi and Mr. Isiaka Oyefeso who were also Old Students of the school, represented the 1997 set during the former presentation of the Sports Essay competition to the students of the school.
The visit also afforded representatives of the alumni an opportunity to pay homage to their former school. And also see where they can assist towards the development of the school.
The August visitors where first received by the Principal of the Junior Secondary School Mr. Ogunkanmi and Agric Teacher Mr Adeboye. Before proceeding to the senior secondary session where the Principal Mr. Abdul and Vice Principal Mr. Sanni also welcomed them.
Interestingly, Mr Adeboye who was part of those to receive the Old Students was actually the same Agricultural Science Teacher who taught them in 1997.
Aside the Sports Essay competition presentation which was done by Mr. Joseph Odoekwu, Mr. Stephen Etomi and Isiaka Oyefeso also took turns to sensitize the students and encouraged them on the path of taking their studies serious.
They also pledged the support of the alumni towards the development of the school generally. And promised to arrange for a second visit, where good tidings will be unveiled.
The Sports Essay and Broadcast Competition is an online competition for students of the senior secondary schools in the District 4 and Akintan is one of those schools.
No doubt the visit is in line with the policies recommended by International Sports Federations such as FIFA , ITTF and others, where they encouraged the use of Sports events as a tool for development.
