Carrara Stadium will play a central role in GC2018, hosting the Opening and Closing Ceremonies in a triumphant manner and also all athletics events. Venue capacity will be temporarily increased from 27,400 to 35,000 for GC2018. An IAAF certified track and associated track and field events infrastructure will be installed in both the main stadium and on the adjacent warm-up track. However, the Race Walks (Free event) will take place at the Currumbin Beachfront event, while the Marathon (Free Event) will take place at the Southport Broadwater Parklands. Ticket will be expected to be sold for $10 for Children while the Adults will be expected to pay $20. The final of the athletics events which is expected to hold at the Carrara Stadium will have the adults pay $40.
