A former member of the defunct Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Mallam Gara Gombe has warned that there was no basis comparing Pinnick’s FIFA Council Seat ambition with that of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Mallam Gombe who was also the former chairman of the Gombe FA stated this in a chat on the Football News and Gist platform.

“Why should we compare Amaju Pinnick’s ambition with Akinwunmi Adeshina and Ngozi Okonjo Iweala” he started.

When Akinwunmi Adeshina was campaigning for a second term as president of Africa Development bank, he came and met Mr. President”.

“The President hosted him and everybody saw it, and the Federal government placed every single mercenary of the government at the disposal of Akinwunmi”.

“Even the Nigerian government challenged the allegations of Donald Trump because Trump never wanted him”. ‘He won as the President of Africa development bank and continued with his job”.

"Besides, all corruption cases leveled against him were investigated and he was exonerated”

“However, Amaju Pinnick is facing a lot of corruption cases in Nigeria”. “There is no agency of anti-corruption body or law enforcement that is not investigating Pinnick, and yet we want to send him to FIFA”.

“And am hearing that the Federal government is supporting him, what kind of support is that?” “Let him be investigated and cleared like Akinwunmi Adeshina”.

“Akinwunmi did not go to see the Minister of Finance to come and declare government’s support for him in a Press Conference”, he went to see the President,

“It is not about getting the Permanent secretary to hold a press conference where the Minister comes and makes a statement that government has supported him, there is more to that” Gombe insisted.

“Unfortunately, that is what we are seeing today as they got some people who have nothing doing to come out and take picture and say we are supporting Amaju Pinnick”

“Similarly, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has paid her dues, and you are comparing her with Amaju Pinnick, what an insult” Gombe said angrily.

“When she wanted to pick that position, she came and met with the President”. “We saw her with the President and the pictures were everywhere over the social media". "The Federal Government placed every single mercenary at her disposal to give her the needed support”

“Iweala's coming out was even against the interest of the United States of America, under Donald Trump, but she succeeded".

“If the Nigerian government are really in support of the Amaju Pinnick ambition, let them take him to meet with the President and then we will know if we are fighting corruption or not”.

“These people are jokers, I really do not see any seriousness in their campaign that government are backing Amaju Pinnick” Gara concluded.

It will be recalled that in 2004 when Dr. Amos Adamu contested and won the FIFA executive council seat, Nigeria’s then President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo made available all mercenaries of the government available to support him.
