With less than 48 hours to start of AFCON Egypt 2019, CAF President Ahmad Ahmad has declared war on Sports Journalists. President Ahmad Ahmad launched an attack on Algerian Journalist Nazim Bessol who works with Algerian newspaper Botola.
Nazim Bessol applied for the CAF Media accreditation which was approved and sent to him with accreditation number 1206. But with just two days days to the event his media accreditation was revoked by CAF after a formal rejection letter was sent to him.
There are strong indications that CAF's decision to revoke the Algerian Journalist media accreditation was a punitive measure for the role he played in the investigation that led to the arrest and interrogation of President Ahmad Ahmad by the French Police while in France.
AIPS Africa President Mr. Mitchel Obi has condemned the decision of CAF to revoke the media accreditation of Mazim Bessol. He further described the act as "a brutish show of disrespect to the Sports media in Africa".
"Am in link with the AIPS President for a global appraisal of another assault on the independence of the thought of the sports media". he started.
"AIPS AFRICA firmly condemns this ominous act and shares with the Algerian Sports media sentiments duly expressed in seeking a reversal of this unwholesome act" Obi added.
"We will not hesitate to go the distance in checking this brazen attempt to hide under the cloak of a collective fold and pursue dark and personal designs" he concluded.
With the situation on ground, there are heavy speculations that Journalists will stage a media protest in Egypt during the continental showpiece, unless CAF rescinds on her decision and reinstate Mazim Bessol's accreditation.
