Four female students from Ansar Ud Deen Senior High School, Falolu Surulere, Lagos have emerged as first students to register from their school.

Abdulwahab Shukurah, Adebayo Mistura, Ajiboye Ayomide and Babafemi Blessing who are all SS2 students visited the corporate office of the organizers after close of school to register for the competition.

Ajiboye Ayomide was earlier assigned by the teacher in-charge to lead a delegate of all interested students to the venue after school. But eventually came with three other female students.

When asked why their male counterparts did not come around and join in the registration exercise, their response was interesting.

“Maybe they (male students) are not interested and do not believe in their potentials to be winner. We have made a decision on our own to identify with the programme and rule”.

"We are concerned about taking part in the Sports Essay and Broadcast competition. We therefore cannot wait until our male counterpart show interest before we register” they said.

Shukurah and Ayomide also said they are willing to employ the Yoruba language in the Sports Broadcast category.

Interestingly, Mistura who was cheerful and full of life had already started parading herself as incoming champion in the Sports Essay broadcast competition in English.

While Blessing who appeared to be someone with few words and more action said her works will speak for her in the competition.

The Sports Essay and Broadcast competition tagged Youth Sports Media event is organized for students of the Senior Secondary Schools in Lagos.

It is expected that participating students will explore their knowledge of creative, argumentative, descriptive and expository writing and presentation skills to tell stories in the competition.

The event has been approved by the office of the District IV through the Permanent Secretary and Tutor-General.
