The list of the 60 Sports Icons have finally being unveiled at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja yesterday.

The event which is in celebration of Nigeria's most outstanding 60 sports persons in the last sixty years had names of notable sports personalities.

According to result of the votes cast to pick these icons Atlanta 1996 Olympic gold medalist such as Kanu Nwankwo, Austin Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, Garba Lawal, Emmanuel Amuneke were largely selected by voters.

Stephen Okechukwu Keshi who remains the only Nigerian to win the AFCON title both as a player and as a coach was also not missed out on the list.

Also is the AFCON winning 1980 Green Eagles team that won Nigeria’s first title on home soil, with captain Christian Chukwu and Segun Odegbami listed as individuals. Emmanuel Okala and Mudashiru Lawal were also picked as symbol of the 1980 Green Eagles.

Nigeria's first Olympic medalist Nojeem Maiyegun was not left out, while Nigeria's first individual Olympic gold medalist Chioma Ajunwa who conquered the world in Atlanta 1996 Olympics was also listed.

The Golden Eaglet 1985 team that became the first ever African side to win a FIFA organized event were also not missed out on the list.

Also on the list are legendary radio commentators Mazi Ernest Okonkwo, Dr. Larry Izamoje. Pillar of Sports of Africa Chief MKO Abiola and sports philanthropists Alikote Dangote, Chief Adebutu Kesington among others also made the list.
