Atlanta 1996 Olympic football gold medalist Emmanuel Babayaro has reacted to the attack of unarmed protesters at the Lekki tollgate yesterday by soldiers.
Babayaro who reacted to the incident on the Nigeria Sports Centre Whatsapp platform started by said:
"They say if you want to kill a dog, you give it a bad name". "For record purposes, I am 100% for #endSARS". "But have we asked what logical sense does it make for the government to further destroy its already bartered image by killing protesters"?
"How does that dastardly act favor the government in any way"? "Is it not common knowledge in this country that criminal elements very often commit heinous crimes wearing uniforms of our law enforcement agencies"? "Can you even put it past the government's opposition to further rubbish them?
"Perhaps it is also time to give this struggle a face". "By identifying leaders as forebears for better and effective coordination of the struggle". Some of these very avoidable incidents could have been averted, Lord have mercy on us. Sad.
Babayaro was a special adviser to the Imo state government on New Economic Partnership for African Development (NEPAD).
