This was contained in a press release made available to press men by the Head of Media Unit Mr. Robert Onwukwe after a virtual meeting of the Executive of NBSA which took place on March 10, 2021.
According to an extract from the release, it reads in part, “In view of the development, four competitions were therefore sanctioned. The competitions are:
(a) U18 Baseball and Softball Championship expected to hold in May at Ilorin,
(b) U12 and U15 Softball Tournament which will hold in April at Badagry,
(c) Baseball5 Tournament which will hold in August at Lagos, and
(d) U12 and U15 Baseball Tournament which is expected to hold in October at Port Harcourt.
The release further stated that :"The Executive Committee further resolved to uphold the standardisation of competitions as recommended by a taskforce constituted for that purpose more than a month earlier."
"With the development, all baseball and softball competitions are to hold using the standards set by the Taskforce to engender club development, acquisition of skills by officials and players and prepare teams for international tournaments”.
"The President of the Association, Dr William Boyd, further warned that Clubs and state associations interested in hosting competitions must adhere to these standards otherwise the tournament will not be sanctioned by the NBSA.
He reiterated that situation existing hitherto in the association in which all sorts of unregulated tournaments were organised can no longer be tolerated. He added that affiliated clubs, players and officials who participated in such unregulated tournaments would face disciplinary actions of the Association.
With this developments, it is expected that baseball which is a team Sport but lagging behind in Nigeria will experience growth and developments.
