Nigeria’s foremost football supporters club Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) has thrown weight behind the Biennial World Cup been proposed by FIFA.
National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club Rev (Amb) Samuel Ikpea stated this in an exclusive chat with Sports Intelligence Magazine.
Ikpea who spoke from his base in Lagos on the issue which has been gaining global attention in the football community started by saying:
“The Biennial World Cup is a bright idea”. “It will give room for frequent participation and this is good for the development of the game”.
“More over, Africa’s chances of hosting the World Cup will also be increased and it may be possible that another African country will host it after South Africa did since 2010”.
“A Biennial World Cup will further encourage development and players will have opportunities to increase their representation for their countries and this is also good” Ikpea added.
“Those of us who are fans shall no longer be waiting for four years to witness the World Cup”. “We shall see it as frequently as possible” he concluded.
FIFA had proposed a biennial world cup host participation, and the issue has been rejected by some countries while others had also supported it.
