Barcelona and Argentine football legend Lionel Messi has taken a bow to the rampaging coronavirus and shaved off his long kept beards.

His reason for shaving his beards was revealed by his wife Antonella, who said the Barcelona forward was afraid of contacting the coronavirus. Hence shaving the long cherished beards became necessary.

 According to Spanish publication Tribuna, having a beard poses a serious risk as a person tends to touch his face more often. Moreover, it complicate putting on a protective mask.

Interestingly, Messi’s new look now takes us back to the early 2010 when the Argentine had no beards on his cheeks and Barcelona practically dominated European football.

It was also reported by the source that many medical workers had their beards shaved so Messi who joined in solidarity did the obvious to fight the epidemic.
