Ehibam’s Memorial Brings First Ehi Rugby Tournament To Schools In Edo State

Edo State is gradually becoming the home for Rugby as the Ehibam Griefshare Foundation who launched the Ehibam Schools Rugby program last year is set to have the maiden edition of the Rugby annual tournament.

The event which is expected to start-off on Friday 29, November 2019 in Edo is organized in memory of the beloved son of the founder of the Foundation Pastor Dupe Irele. Her late son Ehiseme Osarieme Ehi Alonge, who is being honoured was a diehard Rugby player and coach who died at the age of 35 in England on his way to work.

Ehi, who would have been 40 years this year, was also coach especially for his local Rugby team and the kids of his neigbourhood.

A statement issued by the Coordinator and Head Coach of the Edo State Rugby Mr Ntiense (Mr. Rugby)stated: “The first edition of the Ehibam Schools Rugby Tournament will feature 8 schools from the 14 schools presently participating in the Edo State Schools program”. They are divided into two categories of four boys and four girls teams which are:

2.	ASORO GRAMMAR SCHOOL	IDIA COLLEGE
3.	IYOKOGBA GRAMMAR SCHOOL	IYOGBE COLLEGE
4	IYOGBE COLLEGE	ST. MARIAH GORETTI SECONDARY SCHOOL

The statement further highlighted that “Ehibam Griefshare Foundation have decided to partner in the development of Rugby and in Nigeria and Edo State in particular by sponsoring schools tournament and special prizes to young rugby players across the country when the need arises”. Two giant trophies were donated for the Rugby tournament which goes for both the male and female categories.

Happy Ntiense popularly known as "Mr Rugby",who was full of joy for the progress Rugby is making in Edo state did not hesitate to formally congratulate Edo State Girls Rugby Team for their success at the just concluded National Games which took place in Ilorin. The Girls distinguished themselves and won Gold at the games.

Ntiense also seized the opportunity to thank the Edo State Sports Commission led by Barrister Godwin Dudu Orumen and the Edo State Rugby Association led by Frank Evbuomwan for their support towards the development of Rugby in Edo State.
