The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Anambra Chapter have sent in their message of consolation to management of FC Ifeanyi Ubah on the recent attack of their players by unknown gunmen in Kogi state.

According to a statement issued by the state chapter of the association and signed by the chairman Mr. Anthony Oji and Secretary Chimezie Anaso, the statement read in part:

"Anambra SWAN regrets and condemns the attack which occurred on November 29 and caused gun injuries to two occuants of the vehicle conveying the team to their NPFL MD 6 Week match against Jigawa Golden Star in Kano".

"We thank God that no life was lost while we pray for quick recovery of those who were injured. More importantly, that the trauma of the unfortunate attack may evaporate from the psyche of the team".

"For us, it is a message of both congratulations and solidarity to the team because FCIU will later today, Saturday November 30 be Specially Recognised the Most Successful Football Club at the lecture/Recognition Night of the Anamnbra SWAN Week in Awka"

Players of the club were on transit to the venue before unknown gunmen attacked the bus, shooting at the bus and with intention to rob.

However, no life was lost but two who were injured have been placed under treatment.

The rate at which insecurity is rising in the country is unbecoming. The government of the day need to do more in providing adequate security for footballers who travel within the country to play matches.
