Nigeria women's U17 team today beat their Chilean counterpart in the ongoing FIFA U17 Women's World Cup by 2-1 to reach the knockout stage of the tournament.

Within the first four minutes of play, Nigeria"s team captain Blessing Emmanuel led by example by hitting a pass from the edge of the 18-yard-box to give Nigeria the lead .

Flamingoes made series of efforts to increase the tally but the South Americans were stubborn.

Flamingoes also did not give room for conceding as they held on to their lead till half time to ensure they keep their hopes alive.

The second half continued with lots of efforts but the South Americans managed it until Nigeria broke lose in the 82nd minute when Mosaku's shot inside the 6-yard box struck the roof of the net to give Nigeria her second goal.

The Chileans looked tired and were probably giving up but made efforts and a VAR review in the 90th minutes gave them a penalty which was converted in injury time and gave them a slim hope.

That hope did not last until the final whistle was blown and Nigeria will now progress while the Chileans will have to fly depart India after making their debut.

Nigeria finished second on table to reach the knockout stage behind Germany who also beat New Zealand 3-1 to finish top with 9 points.
