The Edo State Sports Commission Boss Mr. Godwin Dudu-Orumen has debunked speculations suggesting that the VAR system will be used in the football matches of the forthcoming Edo 2020 National Sports Festival.
In a chat with Sports Intelligence Magazine on the use of VAR at the Festival, Orumen who reacted to the rumour started by saying:
“I don’t know where that story is coming from, the NSF has not introduced VAR for the football games, so who is saying this”.
“VAR was a requirement to make the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium one of the best options to be used to host the botched female U-20 World Cup”. “When FIFA was coming, we put the process in place for VAR to be installed at the Ogbemudia Stadium”
“The Ogbemudia Stadium is not for the football event, it is the University of Benin and another venue that will be used for the football event so where is this story coming from” he queried.
There have been speculations about the use of VAR during the Festival, while another school of thought had started questioning if the Edo State have got the technical officers to manage the VAR if introduced.
