The Rivers State Executive Council has officially approved the setting up of a 13-man heavy-weight committee that would plan the forthcoming AIPS World Executive Committee Meeting.

The event which would also serve as AIPS-Africa Congress is billed to take place in the Garden city which is also the Capital City of Rivers- Port Harcourt in October 2020.

The 13-man committee would have the SWAN Boss, Honour Sirawoo as the Chairman. Coincidentally, he is also the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Sports and this will probably be his first assignment since his elevation as Permanent Secretary.

The Commissioner for Information Mr. Paulinus Nsirim will also be a member, while former NFF Technical Director Barrister Christopher Green who is Special Adviser on Real Madrid Academy was named on the list.

In the bid to ensure that the Culture and hospitality which the Garden City stands for is projected, the Commissioner for Culture Mr. Tonye Oniyinde was included as a member, also is the Commissioner for Special Duties, Governor’s office Emeka Onowu.

Also, the Commissioner for Youth Development Mr. Ohia Prince will play his role by ensuring that youths are readily available to help project the culture of the good people of Rivers, thereby complementing the blueprints of the Commissioner for Culture.

To ensure that the Sports Media are adequately given a place to perform their role in the event, Chairman of the SWAN Rivers State Chapter Mr. Bob Manuel was also included.

Other members of the Committee are: Special Adviser School Sports, , Ngowari Kalio, Geru Omereji, Senior Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Protocol, Ambassador Harold Koko, O Adele, and Dr Jacob Beredugo, Executive Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Research And Documentation (Secretary.

It is expected that the committee will be officially inaugurated by 11am at the Government House Port Harcourt, on Friday, 6^th March, 2020 by his Excellency Governor Wike Nyesom who is also the Power of Sports- Africa.

The AIPS World Congress is going to be hosted by an African City for the second time since 2014, when Addis Ababa in Ethiopia hosted it. Rivers will by this feat become the first Nigerian City to host the event.
