Monterrey started their FIFA Club World Cup 2019 campaign with a thriller 3-2 victory that makes them book an appointment with Liverpool on Wednesday.

The CONCACAF Champions edged out host Al-Sadd whose hope of hosting to win got shattered.

The Mexicans took the lead in the first-half with two impressive goals coming from Leonel Vangioni and Rogelio Funes in the 23' and injury time.

Al-Sadd struck in the 66' minutes through Baghdad Bounedjah header to give hope to the host, but Rodriguez extended the lead in 77' minutes to make it 3-1.

A late goal through Hassan scored in the 89' minutes which was supposed to be a threat eventually ended as a consolation goal for the host, as the Mexicans prepare to meet European Champions.
