Kickboxing will be the first combat sports to give Nigeria a gold medal at the Olympic Games. The Technical Director of the Nigeria Kickboxing Federation, Mr Wilson Okon stated this at the ongoing National Kickboxing Championship taking place at the Steven Keshi International Stadium Asaba.

Mr Okon said that Kickboxing which had been given full recognition by the International Olympic Committee will make it's debut at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in France and Nigeria had the opportunity of winning medals in Kickboxing as the country was currently ranked number two in Africa.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of fighters who took part at the ongoing National Kickboxing Championship.

The Head Coach Delta State Sports Commission, Coach Christian Chikwe expressed optimism that the athletes discovered during the two day championship will represent Nigeria at the forthcoming International Kickboxing Championship in Paris later this year.

Coach Chikwe said the sport though new in Nigeria had continued to Attract younger athletes. He said the sport remained a major medal propectvfor Nigeria as the nation was blessed with some of the best kickboxing athlete in Africa.

Meanwhile the two day National Kickboxing Championship will comes to an end today with top members of the Federation expected at the event.
