Hon. Princess Samiat Bolanle-Bada has called for an education system that must identify and nurture talented sports boys and girls at the primary and secondary school level, rather than killing them.
She made the call recently while speaking with press men during the final of the maiden edition of the Somolu Newspaper U-16 Table Tennis Championship which was played on Friday November 22, 2019 at the Somolu Local Government Sports Hall.
“It’s quite unfortunate that we have seen teachers beating and punishing some pupils or students for being talented in Sports or giving more attention to it” she started.
“In fact, in some cases those students may just be bold enough to say I do not like mathematics or sciences, yet the teachers punish them and kill the Sports talents that is in them”
“That is really bad and unfortunate” Princess Bolanle Bada reiterated.
“I think it is really good I came down here myself to see these young talents exhibit their skills in Table Tennis”. “We will have to go back and talk to the administrators to change their approach towards dealing with students with talents in sports” “They really need to be nurtured”, she hammered.
When asked what the government will do to harness these young discovered talents at the championship, the beautiful charming woman said:
“Lagos is a symbol of government, and I am part of government”. “I have seen for myself what is happening here and when I get back to my local council in Ikosi Isheri LCDA, I will go and talk to my chairman and tell him it’s time we replicate what they are doing here”
“We have commissioner for Sports and at the Local government level we also have officers who oversee sports activities like this”. “We will get them more involved and take it up to the state level which I am sure the Lagos State government will be glad to be part of”.
Princess Bolalanle-Bada is the Vice Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA and Chairperson of Lagos State Association of Vice Chairmen (LASAC V/C) .
