The Super Falcons of Nigeria beat the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon by 1-0 to secure a semifinal spot and, by extension, qualify for the World Cup. Rasheedat Ajibade’s 57th minute goal at the Stade Mohammed in Casablanca made the difference as the Falcons took a lead that was filled with tension and high expectations for both fans of the two sides. While the Cameroonian fans were looking forward to seeing their side level up, Nigerian fans were looking closely at the tickling time as it tickled to the last minute. Randy Waldrum’s girls were disciplined in the defense as they ensured that the aggressive Lionesses did not penetrate to cause any problem. The Indomitable Lionesses who did not lose hope attacked in numbers but their efforts yielded no result. It was their first defeat in this event having scaled through at the group stage without losing a match. Falcon’s victory means they have inflicted another injury on Cameroon and the fact that newly elected FA Chairman Samuel Eto’o witnessed the match must be a big blow to them. Nigeria will now face Morocco in the semifinal as both sides have qualified for the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, while Cameroon will look forward to qualifying for the World Cup through play-offs.
